Is the building secure?

No, there is CCTV both outside the building and inside but this is frequently 'lost', deleted or the cameras are not working when there is an incident and CCTV footage is required. There have been a few break-ins mostly by the homeless/drug users that live in the car park.

How much do the laundry machines cost?

The washing machines cost £2 and the dryers cost 50p for 30 mins, but you will need to put the dryer on 3/4 times for it to dry your clothes, also the washing machines only use cold water. You are much better off using the launderette in Old Christchurch Road as their machines will clean your clothes better and is quicker

Is there an Internet connection in the rooms?

Yes, it is provided by BT and costs £160 for the academic year (10 months). However it is quite slow (they only have three 8Mb/s connections between all rooms) and the Internet connection has been known to go down frequently (sometimes for weeks at a time). Just when you need it to do university work.

Is there a TV socket in the rooms?

No, it is reccomended that you use an external aerial, however there are only a few rooms that pick up TV signals, even then the reception is poor and is limited to a few channels. If you are sucessful in getting a signal you will need a TV licence.

Are there any other bills?

Only electricity which is purchased by way of £5 cards. This is the only halls of residence in Bournemouth that charges extra for the Internet and eletricity

Do I have to clear my room for the holidays?

No, however for security reasons it is recomended that you take home anything of value or that you don't want stolen.

What type of contract do I sign and can I move out before the end?

You will sign a 41 week fixed term contract that is legally binding. This means that you will be liable for all remaining rent should you wish to move out before the expiry of the contract unless you can find someone who is willing to move into Glenfern in order to replace you. Then, who would want to move into Glenfern given the state of the place.
